Gunsen: The Battle for Toshi Ranbo at Gen Con
Raise your clan’s banner in Indianapolis.
Drums beat and the conch shell blares. Samurai, cavalry, and ashigaru enter formation. A war fan relays the general’s orders – the time to march on Toshi Ranbo has come.
Event registration for Gen Con opens Sunday, May 17 (learn more at GenCon.com). This year, there will be ticketed events for Gunsen: The Battle for Toshi Ranbo, the upcoming Legend of the Five Rings board game from Office Dog studio. Gen Con attendees can get a first look at Gunsen: The Battle for Toshi Ranbo and choose a clan to represent in the Gen Con battle of the clans!
In Gunsen, players take on the role of a commander of one of the Great Clans’ armies. They’ll draft resources, build their engine, draft troops, and move to lay siege on enemy clans to complete objectives and claim the fortress city of Toshi Ranbo for their own. You can read more about the game itself on the Office Dog website.
The events at Gen Con are not formal tournaments, but in keeping with L5R tradition, participants will have a chance to leave their mark on Rokugan’s history. Each day on our social media channels, we’ll tabulate the rankings by clan so far, and we’ll reveal a piece of lore highlighting the leading clans’ history in the city of Toshi Ranbo. The clan with the most wins by the end of the convention will be immortalized in L5R lore and awarded with a chronicle of their legendary heroism and courage.
But no matter whether they grasped victory or let it slip through their fingers, all players will receive a sticker sheet for their chosen clan, and the winner of each table will receive a gunsen (war fan) as their prize.
The event runs at 1, 3, and 5pm Thursday through Saturday. On Sunday, the final event starts at 1pm. Each event runs for just 90 minutes, so you’ll still be able to enjoy everything there is to see and play at “the Best Four Days in Gaming.”
We look forward to gaming with you this year in Indianapolis!
